Horchata and Fartons
Horchata is a refreshing Spanish drink made from tiger nuts, and Fartons are sweet, soft bread perfect for dipping in the Horchata.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Powdered sugar - For dusting
- Butter - 1/2 cup, melted
- Milk - 1 cup
- Eggs - 2
- Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
- Flour - 2 cups
- Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Water - 4 cups
- Tiger nuts - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Soak the tiger nuts in water overnight. Drain and blend with fresh water. Strain the mixture and add sugar and cinnamon. Chill before serving.
- For the Fartons, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. In another bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, milk, and melted butter. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth. Roll the dough into a rectangle and cut into long, thin strips.
- Place the strips on a baking sheet and let them rise for an hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake the Fartons for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Dust with powdered sugar before serving with the Horchata.
