Tonic Water
A refreshing and natural homemade tonic water, perfect for mixing with gin or vodka for a homemade cocktail.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Cold water - 4 cups
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Orange - 1, zested and juiced
- Lime - 1, zested and juiced
- Lemon - 1, zested and juiced
- Citric acid - 1/4 cup
- Cinchona bark - 1/4 cup, powdered
- Water - 4 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, combine the water, cinchona bark, citric acid, and the zest and juice of the lemon, lime, and orange.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 2 hours.
- Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve, discarding the solids.
- Return the liquid to the pot and add the sugar, stirring until it's completely dissolved.
- Let the mixture cool, then stir in the cold water.
- Pour the tonic water into a clean bottle or jar and store it in the refrigerator.
- Serve chilled, on its own or mixed with your favorite spirit.
