Tomato Sauce for Pasta
This homemade tomato sauce is perfect for pasta dishes. It's made with fresh tomatoes, garlic, and herbs.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Parmesan cheese - Grated, for serving
- Fresh basil leaves - Handful, chopped
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - To taste
- Salt - To taste
- Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Dried basil - 1 teaspoon
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Tomatoes - 6 large, ripe, diced
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
Let's Get Started
- Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and chopped onion. Cook until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 5 minutes.
- Add the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir well to combine.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove the lid and continue cooking for another 10 minutes to thicken the sauce.
- Stir in the chopped fresh basil leaves.
- Serve the tomato sauce over cooked pasta and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
