Tomato Rasam
Tomato Rasam is a tangy and spicy South Indian soup made from tomatoes, tamarind, and a blend of spices.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Water - 3 cups
- Salt - To taste
- Coriander leaves - For garnishing
- Curry leaves - A few
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Asafoetida - A pinch
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Rasam powder - 2 teaspoons
- Tamarind - 1 small lemon-sized ball
- Tomatoes - 2, large
Let's Get Started
- Soak the tamarind in warm water for 10 minutes, then squeeze out the juice and discard the pulp.
- Heat a pot and add the mustard seeds. When they start to splutter, add the cumin seeds, asafoetida, and curry leaves.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they are soft.
- Add the tamarind juice, rasam powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Add water and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Garnish with coriander leaves before serving.
