Tomato Bredie
Tomato Bredie is a traditional South African stew, slow-cooked to perfection with mutton and flavorful spices.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Water - 2 cups
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Ground coriander - 1 teaspoon
- Chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
- Potatoes - 4, peeled and quartered
- Tomatoes - 5 large, chopped
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Onions - 2, chopped
- Mutton - 1 kg, cut into pieces
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, brown the mutton pieces over medium heat.
- Add the onions and garlic, cook until the onions are soft.
- Add the tomatoes, potatoes, chilli powder, coriander, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Add the water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 2 hours, or until the mutton is tender and the flavors are well combined.
- Serve the Tomato Bredie hot with rice or bread.
