Tokneneng
Tokneneng is a popular Filipino street food made of deep-fried battered hard-boiled eggs.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Pepper - for dipping sauce
- Salt - for dipping sauce
- Vinegar - for dipping sauce
- Cooking oil - for deep frying
- Red food coloring - a few drops
- Water - 1 cup
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
- Cornstarch - 1/2 cup
- All-purpose flour - 1 cup
- Hard-boiled eggs - 8
Let's Get Started
- In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add water while stirring until a smooth batter is formed.
- Add a few drops of red food coloring to the batter and mix well.
- Heat cooking oil in a deep pan or pot over medium heat.
- Dip each hard-boiled egg into the batter, making sure it is fully coated.
- Carefully place the coated eggs into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the tokneneng from the oil and drain on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
- Serve hot with vinegar dipping sauce seasoned with salt and pepper.
