Let's Get Started

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a food processor, combine the almond flour and powdered sugar and process until fine.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
  4. Fold the almond flour mixture into the egg whites until well combined. Add the orange food coloring and mix until the batter is evenly colored.
  5. Transfer the batter to a piping bag and pipe small circles onto the prepared baking sheets.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes, or until the macarons are set. Let cool completely on the baking sheets.
  7. In a small bowl, combine the tequila and grenadine. Brush this mixture onto the cooled macarons.
  8. In a large bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and beat until fluffy. Stir in the orange zest.
  9. Spread the buttercream onto half of the macarons and top with the remaining macarons to form sandwiches.
