Tandoori Naan
Tandoori Naan is a traditional Indian bread made with yogurt and cooked in a tandoor or oven.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Butter - 2 tablespoons, melted
- Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Active dry yeast - 2 teaspoons
- Warm water - 1/2 cup
- Yogurt - 1/2 cup
- All-purpose flour - 3 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the yeast mixture and yogurt.
- Mix well until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 500°F (260°C) or the highest temperature your oven can reach.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball.
- Roll out each ball into an oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Brush the naan with melted butter and sprinkle with minced garlic and chopped cilantro.
- Place the naan on a baking sheet or pizza stone and bake for 5-7 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and brush with more melted butter before serving.
