Sukiyaki is a popular Japanese hot pot dish which is often cooked and served at the table, similar to Shabu Shabu. More like a soup, it's made with thinly sliced beef and vegetables that are simmered in a sweet and salty soy sauce based broth.

Let's Get Started

  1. In a large pot, combine soy sauce, sugar, sake, mirin, and water to make the broth. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  2. Add the beef to the pot and cook until browned.
  3. Add the napa cabbage, green onion, mushrooms, and tofu to the pot. Let everything simmer for about 15 minutes, until the vegetables are tender and the flavors are well combined.
  4. Serve the sukiyaki hot, straight from the pot.
