Sukiyaki
Sukiyaki is a popular Japanese hot pot dish which is often cooked and served at the table, similar to Shabu Shabu. More like a soup, it's made with thinly sliced beef and vegetables that are simmered in a sweet and salty soy sauce based broth.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Water - 2 cups
- Mirin - 1/4 cup
- Sake - 1/4 cup
- Sugar - 3 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 1/2 cup
- Tofu - 1 block, cubed
- Shiitake mushrooms - 8
- Green onion - 2 stalks, chopped
- Napa cabbage - 1/2 head, chopped
- Thinly sliced beef - 400 grams
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, combine soy sauce, sugar, sake, mirin, and water to make the broth. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Add the beef to the pot and cook until browned.
- Add the napa cabbage, green onion, mushrooms, and tofu to the pot. Let everything simmer for about 15 minutes, until the vegetables are tender and the flavors are well combined.
- Serve the sukiyaki hot, straight from the pot.
