Sukiyaki
Sukiyaki is a popular Japanese hot pot dish made with thinly sliced beef, vegetables, and a sweet and savory soy-based sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Eggs - 4
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Mirin - 2 tablespoons
- Sake - 2 tablespoons
- Sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Sukiyaki sauce - 1/2 cup
- Enoki mushrooms - 4 ounces
- Green onions - 4, sliced
- Shiitake mushrooms - 8 ounces, sliced
- Napa cabbage - 2 cups, sliced
- Noodles - 8 ounces, cooked
- Tofu - 1 block, cut into cubes
- Beef - 1 pound, thinly sliced
Let's Get Started
- In a large skillet or hot pot, heat some oil over medium heat.
- Add the beef slices and cook until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the tofu, napa cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, green onions, and enoki mushrooms. Cook until the vegetables are slightly softened.
- In a small bowl, mix together the sukiyaki sauce, sugar, sake, mirin, and soy sauce. Pour the sauce over the vegetables in the skillet.
- Add the cooked noodles to the skillet and toss to coat them in the sauce.
- Return the beef slices to the skillet and cook for another 2-3 minutes, until everything is heated through.
- In a separate small bowl, beat the eggs.
- Serve the sukiyaki in individual bowls, and each person can dip their beef and vegetables into the beaten eggs before eating.
