Strudel Di Mele
Strudel di Mele is a traditional Italian apple strudel, made with a flaky pastry crust and a sweet apple filling.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Egg - 1, beaten
- Lemon zest - 1 teaspoon
- Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Granulated sugar - 1/2 cup
- Apples - 4, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- Ice water - 1/2 cup
- Unsalted butter - 1 cup, cold and cut into small pieces
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the butter and use your fingers to rub it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add the ice water, stirring until the dough comes together. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the apples, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon zest.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a large rectangle. Spread the apple mixture over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border.
- Roll up the dough, starting from one of the long sides, to form a log. Pinch the ends to seal.
- Place the strudel on a baking sheet and brush with the beaten egg.
- Bake for 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling. Let cool before slicing and serving.
