  1. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  8. Roll the chilled dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Using the back of a fork, flatten each ball and create a crisscross pattern on top.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  11. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
