Sourdough Baguette
A crusty, chewy baguette with a slightly sour, tangy flavor. Perfect for sandwiches or as a side to any meal.
Ingredients - Serves 2
- Salt - 2 teaspoons
- Bread flour - 3 1/2 cups
- Sourdough starter - 1/2 cup
- Warm water - 1 1/4 cups
- Active dry yeast - 1 teaspoon
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Stir in the sourdough starter until well combined.
- Add the flour and salt to the bowl and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal parts. Shape each part into a long, thin baguette.
- Place the baguettes on a baking sheet, cover them with a cloth, and let them rise again for about 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Bake the baguettes for about 25 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- Let the baguettes cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
