Somlar Machu Trey
Somlar Machu Trey is a traditional Cambodian fish soup made with fish, lemongrass, and tamarind.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Cilantro - For garnish
- Onion - 1, sliced
- Tomato - 1, diced
- Red chili - 1, sliced
- Galangal - 2 slices
- Kaffir lime leaves - 4 leaves
- Water - 4 cups
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Fish sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Tamarind paste - 2 tablespoons
- Lemongrass - 2 stalks, bruised
- Fish fillets - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, bring water to a boil.
- Add lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, and salt. Simmer for 10 minutes to infuse the flavors.
- Add fish fillets and cook for 5 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through.
- Remove the fish from the pot and set aside.
- Add tamarind paste, fish sauce, sugar, red chili, tomato, and onion to the pot. Simmer for another 10 minutes.
- Return the cooked fish to the pot and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- Serve hot, garnished with cilantro.
