Som Tum
Som Tum is a popular Thai salad featuring raw green papaya, fresh vegetables, and a spicy chili-lime dressing.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Roasted peanuts - 1/4 cup, crushed
- Palm sugar - 1 tablespoon, grated
- Lime juice - 3 tablespoons
- Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Red chili peppers - 2-3, to taste
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Green beans - 1 cup, cut into 1 inch pieces
- Cherry tomatoes - 1 cup, halved
- Green papaya - 1 medium, shredded
Let's Get Started
- In a large mortar, pound the garlic and chili peppers into a paste.
- Add the green beans and lightly pound them just until bruised.
- Add the shredded green papaya, cherry tomatoes, fish sauce, lime juice, and palm sugar to the mortar.
- Use the pestle to mix and lightly pound the ingredients together until well combined and the flavors are melded together.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Transfer the salad to a serving dish and sprinkle with crushed peanuts before serving.
