Skeleton Halloween Cookies
These spooky skeleton Halloween cookies are perfect for your Halloween party or trick-or-treaters. They are fun to make and even more fun to eat!
Ingredients - Serves 12
- White food coloring - As needed
- Black food coloring - As needed
- Royal icing - 1 cup
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 1 1/2 cups
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Egg - 1
- Granulated sugar - 1/2 cup
- Butter - 1/2 cup, softened
Let's Get Started
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough in half and wrap each half in plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out one portion of the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Use a skeleton-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies from the rolled dough and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
- Prepare the royal icing according to the package instructions and divide it into two bowls.
- Add black food coloring to one bowl and white food coloring to the other bowl, mixing until desired colors are achieved.
- Using a piping bag or a small spoon, decorate the cooled cookies with the black and white royal icing to create skeleton designs.
- Allow the icing to set before serving or storing the cookies.
