Shrimp Gumbo
This delicious shrimp gumbo is a classic Cajun dish made with shrimp, sausage, vegetables, and flavorful spices.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Green onions - 1/4 cup, chopped
- Cooked rice - 3 cups
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Shrimp - 1 pound, peeled and deveined
- Okra - 1 cup, sliced
- Canned diced tomatoes - 1 can (14.5 ounces)
- Chicken broth - 4 cups
- Bay leaves - 2
- Dried thyme - 1 teaspoon
- Cajun seasoning - 2 tablespoons
- Andouille sausage - 12 ounces, sliced
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Celery - 2 stalks, chopped
- Green bell pepper - 1, chopped
- Onion - 1 large, chopped
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
Let's Get Started
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the sliced sausage, Cajun seasoning, dried thyme, and bay leaves. Cook for another 5 minutes.
- Pour in the chicken broth and diced tomatoes. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
- Add the sliced okra and shrimp to the pot. Cook for an additional 10 minutes, or until the shrimp are cooked through.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the gumbo over cooked rice and garnish with chopped green onions.
