Shawarma
This flavorful chicken shawarma is made with marinated chicken, spices, and served with pita bread and tahini sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Fresh parsley - 1/4 cup, chopped
- Red onion - 1, thinly sliced
- Cucumbers - 1, sliced
- Tomatoes - 2, sliced
- Tahini sauce - 1/2 cup
- Pita bread - 4 pieces
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Ground turmeric - 1/2 teaspoon
- Ground coriander - 1 teaspoon
- Ground paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Chicken thighs - 1.5 lbs, boneless and skinless
Let's Get Started
- In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, coriander, turmeric, salt, and pepper to make the marinade.
- Add the chicken thighs to the marinade and toss to coat. Let it marinate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat the grill or a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Cook the marinated chicken thighs for about 5-6 minutes per side, or until cooked through and slightly charred.
- Remove the chicken from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes. Then, slice it into thin strips.
- Warm the pita bread in a toaster or on the grill for a few seconds.
- Spread tahini sauce on each pita bread.
- Top with sliced chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, and fresh parsley.
- Fold the pita bread in half and serve immediately.
