Shanghai Dumplings
Shanghai Dumplings, also known as soup dumplings, are a popular Chinese dish filled with meat and hot soup. They are a bit tricky to make but the result is worth it.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Vinegar - For dipping
- Green onions - 2, finely chopped
- Dumpling wrappers - 50 pieces
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Chicken broth - 1 cup
- Gelatin - 1 tablespoon
- Pork - 1/2 pound, minced
Let's Get Started
- Mix the pork, soy sauce, sugar, and ginger in a bowl. Set aside.
- Dissolve the gelatin in the chicken broth and refrigerate until it sets into a jelly.
- Mix the jelly into the pork mixture.
- Place a spoonful of the pork mixture in the center of each dumpling wrapper.
- Fold the dumpling wrapper over the filling and pleat the edges to seal it.
- Steam the dumplings in a bamboo steamer for about 10 minutes.
- Serve the dumplings hot with chopped green onions and vinegar for dipping.
