Sfoglio Polizzi Generosa
Sfoglio Polizzi Generosa is a traditional Sicilian dessert, made with layers of pastry, sweet ricotta, and dark chocolate.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Powdered sugar - For dusting
- Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Dark chocolate - 100 grams
- Ricotta cheese - 500 grams
- Eggs - 2
- Butter - 200 grams
- Sugar - 200 grams
- Flour - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and butter. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the eggs and mix until a dough forms. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Roll out the dough and line a tart pan with it. Prick the bottom with a fork.
- In a bowl, combine the ricotta, chocolate, and cinnamon. Spread this mixture over the dough.
- Roll out the remaining dough and cut into strips. Arrange the strips on top of the ricotta filling in a lattice pattern.
- Bake for 45 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and the filling is set.
- Let the sfoglio cool completely before dusting with powdered sugar and serving.
