Satoimo Simmered in Dashi
This traditional Japanese dish features satoimo, or taro root, simmered in a flavorful dashi broth until tender.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Sake - 1 tablespoon
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Mirin - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Dashi - 2 cups
- Satoimo (taro root) - 8 small
Let's Get Started
- Peel the satoimo and rinse under cold water to remove any residual dirt.
- Place the satoimo in a pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook for 5 minutes.
- Drain the satoimo and return to the pot. Add the dashi, soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and sake.
- Bring to a simmer and cook for 20-25 minutes, or until the satoimo are tender and the sauce has thickened.
- Serve the satoimo warm, drizzled with the remaining sauce.
