Sata Andagi
Sata Andagi is a traditional Okinawan deep-fried doughnut. It is crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, with a hint of sweetness.
Ingredients - Serves 12
- Powdered sugar - For dusting
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Milk - 1/2 cup
- Egg - 1
- Granulated sugar - 1/2 cup
- Baking powder - 2 teaspoons
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and granulated sugar.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then add the milk and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil. Fry in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes.
- Remove the sata andagi from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Repeat with the remaining batter.
- Dust the sata andagi with powdered sugar before serving.
