Gelato Fritto
Gelato Fritto is a delicious Italian dessert where scoops of gelato are breaded and quickly deep-fried, creating a warm and crispy shell around the still-cold ice cream.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Powdered sugar - For dusting
- Vegetable oil - For deep frying
- Breadcrumbs - 1 cup
- Eggs - 2
- All-purpose flour - 1 cup
- Gelato or ice cream - 8 scoops
Let's Get Started
- Scoop the gelato into balls and place on a lined baking sheet. Freeze for at least 2 hours, or until very firm.
- Place the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs in separate shallow dishes.
- Roll each gelato ball in the flour, then dip in the egg, and finally roll in the breadcrumbs. Place back on the baking sheet and freeze for another hour.
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan to 375°F.
- Working in batches, fry the gelato balls for 8-10 seconds, until golden brown.
- Using a slotted spoon, remove the gelato balls from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Dust with powdered sugar and serve immediately.
