Sarson Da Saag
Sarson Da Saag is a popular vegetarian dish from the Punjab region of India and Pakistan made from mustard leaves (sarson) and spices.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Cornmeal - 2 tablespoons
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Ghee - 3 tablespoons
- Tomato - 1 large
- Onion - 1 medium
- Ginger - 1 inch piece
- Garlic - 6 cloves
- Green chilli - 2
- Fenugreek leaves - 1/4 bunch
- Spinach - 1/2 bunch
- Mustard leaves - 1 bunch
Let's Get Started
- Clean and wash mustard leaves, spinach and fenugreek leaves. Chop them finely.
- Chop green chillies, garlic, ginger, onions and tomatoes.
- Heat two tablespoons ghee in a pan. Add green chillies, garlic and ginger. Sauté for two minutes.
- Add onions and sauté till light brown. Add tomatoes and sauté till they are cooked.
- Add chopped greens and sauté for five minutes. Add salt, red chilli powder and mix. Add half a cup of water, cover and cook on low heat for forty-five minutes.
- Add cornmeal dissolved in half a cup of water and cook for ten minutes.
- Add garam masala powder and remaining ghee and mix. Serve hot with makki ki roti.
