Saffron Rice
This aromatic saffron rice is a flavorful and colorful side dish that pairs well with a variety of main courses.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped (for garnish)
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Saffron threads - 1/4 teaspoon
- Water - 2 cups
- Basmati rice - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a small bowl, soak the saffron threads in 2 tablespoons of warm water for 10 minutes.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent.
- Add the cumin powder, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan, and stir for 1 minute.
- Add the rinsed basmati rice to the saucepan and stir to coat the rice with the butter and spices.
- Pour in the saffron water along with the soaked saffron threads, and stir well.
- Add 2 cups of water to the saucepan and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the liquid is absorbed.
- Fluff the saffron rice with a fork and garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
