Let's Get Started

  1. Dissolve the yeast in warm milk and a teaspoon of sugar.
  2. Mix the flour with half of the remaining sugar, add the yeast mixture, an egg and the butter. Knead to a smooth dough and let it rise for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Roll out the dough and place it in a greased baking dish.
  4. For the middle layer, mix the quark with two eggs, half of the remaining sugar, vanilla extract and lemon zest. Spread this mixture over the dough.
  5. For the top layer, melt the remaining butter, let it cool slightly, then mix with the remaining sugar and eggs. Pour this mixture over the quark layer.
  6. Bake the cake in the preheated oven for about 60 minutes. Let it cool before serving.
