- For the syrup: water - 2 cups
- For the syrup: sugar - 2 cups
- Lemon zest - 1 teaspoon
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Eggs - 4
- Semolina - 1 cup
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Milk - 4 cups

Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Brush the bottom of a baking dish with melted butter and layer 6 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter.
- To make the custard, heat the milk and sugar in a saucepan until hot but not boiling. Slowly whisk in the semolina until smooth. Remove from heat.
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Gradually add the eggs to the semolina mixture, whisking constantly. Add the vanilla extract and lemon zest.
- Pour the custard over the phyllo in the baking dish. Top with the remaining 6 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter.
- Bake for 45 minutes, or until the phyllo is golden brown.
- While the pie is baking, make the syrup by combining the sugar, water, and lemon juice in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Pour the hot syrup over the pie as soon as it comes out of the oven. Let it cool before serving.
