Rissois de Camarão
Rissois de Camarão, or Portuguese Shrimp Turnovers, are a popular snack in Portugal. They are small, savory fried turnovers filled with a creamy shrimp filling.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Breadcrumbs - 1 cup
- Eggs - 2
- Milk - 1 cup
- Flour - 1 cup
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Shrimp - 1 pound, peeled and deveined
Let's Get Started
- In a large skillet, sauté the shrimp, onion, and garlic until the shrimp are cooked through.
- Remove the shrimp from the skillet and chop them into small pieces.
- In the same skillet, add the flour and milk, stirring constantly until a thick sauce forms.
- Add the chopped shrimp back into the skillet and stir until well combined. Season with salt and pepper.
- Remove the mixture from the heat and let it cool.
- Once the mixture is cool, shape it into small turnovers.
- Dip each turnover in the beaten eggs, then coat in breadcrumbs.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F.
- Fry the turnovers in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
- Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
