Ris a La Mande
Ris à la Mande is a traditional Danish rice pudding dessert served during Christmas. It is made with rice, whipped cream, almonds, and cherry sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Cherry sauce - 1 cup
- Almonds - 1/2 cup, chopped
- Whipped cream - 1 cup
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1/4 cup
- Milk - 2 cups
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Water - 2 cups
- Short-grain rice - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a saucepan, bring water and salt to a boil. Add the rice and cook over low heat, covered, for 15 minutes or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
- In a separate saucepan, heat the milk, sugar, and vanilla extract over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
- Add the cooked rice to the milk mixture and stir well. Cook for an additional 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and let the rice pudding cool to room temperature.
- Once cooled, fold in the whipped cream and chopped almonds.
- Serve the Ris à la Mande chilled, topped with cherry sauce.
