Mrouzia
Mrouzia is a traditional Moroccan dish made with lamb, honey, and a blend of Moroccan spices. It's a sweet and savory dish that's typically served during special occasions.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Water - 3 cups
- Sesame seeds - 2 tablespoons, toasted
- Almonds - 1/2 cup, blanched and toasted
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Ground turmeric - 1 teaspoon
- Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Ras el hanout - 2 tablespoons
- Honey - 4 tablespoons
- Lamb shoulder - 1 kg, cut into pieces
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the lamb pieces and brown on all sides.
- Add the ras el hanout, cinnamon, turmeric, salt, and pepper to the pot and stir to coat the lamb in the spices.
- Add the water to the pot and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 2 hours.
- After 2 hours, stir in the honey and continue to simmer for another 30 minutes, until the lamb is tender and the sauce has thickened.
- Serve the mrouzia garnished with the toasted almonds and sesame seeds.
