Renkon Chips
Crispy and flavorful, these homemade Renkon Chips (Lotus Root Chips) are perfect for snacking. Lotus root in general is good for digestion and overall health.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Vegetable oil - For deep frying
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Lotus root (renkon) - 1 large
Let's Get Started
- Peel the lotus root and slice it thinly. Soak the slices in water for about 10 minutes to remove any bitterness.
- Drain the lotus root slices and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large, deep saucepan to 375°F (190°C).
- Fry the lotus root slices in batches until they turn golden brown. This should take about 5-7 minutes per batch.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the chips from the oil. Drain them on paper towels.
- While the chips are still hot, sprinkle them with salt.
- Serve the renkon chips immediately for the best flavor and texture.
