Khuushuur
Khuushuur is a traditional Mongolian fried meat pastry filled with seasoned ground meat.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Vegetable oil - 2 cups
- Water - 1 cup
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 3 cups
- Water - 1/4 cup
- Cumin - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Ground beef - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, cumin, and 1/4 cup of water. Mix well to combine.
- In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Gradually add 1 cup of water while stirring until a smooth dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes elastic and smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Divide the dough into small balls and roll each ball into a thin circle, about 5 inches in diameter.
- Place a spoonful of the meat filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Pinch the edges to seal.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot over medium heat. Fry the khuushuur in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove the khuushuur from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
