Let's Get Started

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, sugar, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir to combine.
  4. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove the lid and stir in the fresh chopped basil. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  6. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
