Rajma Masala
Rajma Masala is a popular North Indian dish made with red kidney beans, onions, tomatoes, and a blend of spices.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Cilantro - For garnish
- Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Water - 3 cups
- Salt - To taste
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Garam masala powder - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 2 teaspoons
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Green chilies - 2, finely chopped
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 inch, grated
- Tomato - 2 medium, finely chopped
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Red kidney beans - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Soak the red kidney beans in water overnight or for at least 8 hours.
- Drain the water and rinse the beans. Add them to a pressure cooker with 3 cups of water and cook for 20-25 minutes or until they are soft and tender.
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they start to splutter, add onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Add ginger, garlic, and green chilies and sauté for a minute.
- Add tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
- Add coriander powder, garam masala powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a minute.
- Add the cooked beans along with the water they were cooked in. Mix well and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes or until the gravy thickens.
- Garnish with cilantro and serve hot with rice or roti.
