Ingredients - Serves 12
- All-purpose flour - 3 1/2 to 4 cups
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Egg - 1
- Melted butter - 1/4 cup
- Sugar - 1/4 cup
- Active dry yeast - 2 1/4 teaspoons
- Warm water - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until the yeast is foamy.
- Add the sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until well combined.
- Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Cover the dish with a clean kitchen towel and let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes, or until they have doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- Remove the rolls from the oven and brush them with a little extra melted butter, if desired. Serve warm.
