Pork Pie
This traditional pork pie is a savory pastry filled with seasoned ground pork.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Pie crust - 2, store-bought or homemade
- Egg - 1, beaten
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sage - 1 teaspoon
- Thyme - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, finely chopped
- Ground pork - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- In a large skillet, cook the ground pork over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, thyme, sage, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, until the onion is softened.
- Remove the skillet from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
- Line a pie dish with one of the pie crusts.
- Transfer the pork mixture to the pie dish and spread it evenly.
- Cover the filling with the second pie crust. Trim any excess dough and crimp the edges to seal.
- Brush the beaten egg over the top crust for a golden finish.
- Make a few small slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.
- Bake the pork pie in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
- Allow the pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
