Pepitos
Pepitos are delicious Mexican sandwiches made with crusty bread, seasoned meat, and flavorful toppings.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salsa - 4 tablespoons
- Mayonnaise - 4 tablespoons
- Lettuce - 4 leaves
- Tomato - 1, sliced
- Avocado - 1, sliced
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Bell peppers - 2, thinly sliced
- Onion - 1 large, thinly sliced
- Steak or chicken - 1 pound, thinly sliced
- Crusty bread rolls - 4
Let's Get Started
- Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
- Season the steak or chicken with cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Add the seasoned meat to the skillet and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove the meat from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onion, bell peppers, and minced garlic. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
- Slice the crusty bread rolls in half lengthwise.
- Spread mayonnaise on one side of each bread roll.
- Layer the cooked meat, sautéed vegetables, avocado slices, tomato slices, and lettuce leaves on the bread rolls.
- Top with salsa and cover with the other half of the bread roll.
- Serve the Pepitos immediately and enjoy!
