Pan Fried Pork Buns
These delicious pan-fried pork buns are crispy on the bottom, soft and fluffy on the top, and filled with a flavorful pork filling.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Green onions - 2, finely chopped
- Ground pork - 1/2 pound
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
- Warm water - 1/2 cup
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Active dry yeast - 1 teaspoon
Let's Get Started
- In a small bowl, combine the yeast, sugar, and warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes, or until frothy.
- In a large bowl, add the flour and make a well in the center. Pour the yeast mixture into the well and stir until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- In a medium bowl, combine the ground pork, green onions, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Mix until well combined.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten with a rolling pin into a circle. Place a spoonful of the pork mixture in the center of each circle, then gather the edges of the dough and pinch to seal.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place the buns in the skillet, seam-side down, and cook for 2 minutes, or until the bottoms are golden brown. Flip the buns and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Add 1/2 cup of water to the skillet, cover, and let the buns steam for about 10 minutes, or until the water has evaporated and the buns are cooked through.
