Oreillettes
Oreillettes are a traditional French pastry, often made during the Carnival season. They are light, crispy, and dusted with powdered sugar.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Powdered sugar - For dusting
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Orange blossom water - 1 tablespoon
- Eggs - 2, beaten
- Unsalted butter - 2 tablespoons, melted
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Granulated sugar - 1/4 cup
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
- Make a well in the center and add the melted butter, beaten eggs, and orange blossom water.
- Mix the ingredients together until a dough forms. Knead the dough for a few minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.
- Cut the dough into rectangles or any shape you prefer.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F.
- Fry the oreillettes in batches, turning once, until they are golden brown. This should take about 1-2 minutes on each side.
- Drain the oreillettes on paper towels and dust them with powdered sugar while they are still warm.
