Om Ali
Om Ali is a traditional Egyptian dessert made with puff pastry, milk, nuts, and raisins.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Coconut flakes - 1/4 cup
- Raisins - 1/2 cup
- Pistachios - 1/2 cup, chopped
- Almonds - 1/2 cup, chopped
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Milk - 4 cups
- Puff pastry - 4 sheets
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Place the puff pastry sheets on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool.
- In a saucepan, heat the milk, sugar, and vanilla extract over medium heat until it comes to a simmer. Remove from heat.
- Break the baked puff pastry sheets into small pieces and place them in a baking dish.
- Sprinkle the chopped almonds, pistachios, raisins, and coconut flakes over the puff pastry.
- Pour the hot milk mixture over the puff pastry and nuts. Let it sit for 5 minutes to allow the pastry to absorb the milk.
- Sprinkle ground cinnamon on top.
- Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 20 minutes, or until the top is golden and the milk is absorbed.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
