Oliebollen
Oliebollen are a traditional Dutch treat on New Year's Eve and at funfairs. They are kind of like doughnuts.
Ingredients - Serves 20
- Powdered sugar - For dusting
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Raisins - 1 cup
- Eggs - 2, beaten
- Warm milk - 2 cups
- Active dry yeast - 1 package
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1/4 cup
- All-purpose flour - 4 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Add the warm milk and beaten eggs to the dry ingredients and mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Stir in the raisins.
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F.
- Using two spoons, drop spoonfuls of dough into the hot oil.
- Fry the oliebollen until they are golden brown, about 5 minutes, turning them halfway through so they brown evenly.
- Remove the oliebollen with a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels.
- Dust the oliebollen with powdered sugar before serving.
