Nom Banh Jok
Nom Banh Jok is a traditional Cambodian rice noodle dish served with a flavorful fish-based broth and topped with various herbs and condiments.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Chili peppers - 2, sliced
- Lime wedges - 4
- Fresh herbs (cilantro, mint, basil) - 1 cup, chopped
- Bean sprouts - 1 cup
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - To taste
- Galangal - 2 slices
- Kaffir lime leaves - 4 leaves
- Lemongrass - 2 stalks, bruised
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Fish sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Fish fillets - 500 grams
- Rice noodles - 400 grams
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, bring water to a boil and cook the rice noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In the same pot, add fish fillets, fish sauce, minced garlic, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, salt, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes.
- Remove the fish fillets from the broth and shred them into small pieces using a fork. Set aside.
- Strain the broth to remove the lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and galangal.
- To serve, divide the cooked rice noodles among bowls. Top with shredded fish, bean sprouts, fresh herbs, and chili peppers.
- Pour the hot fish broth over the noodles and garnish with lime wedges.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
