Nom Banh Chou
Nom Banh Chou is a traditional Cambodian dessert made with sticky rice, coconut milk, and bananas.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Sesame seeds - 2 tablespoons, toasted
- Pandan leaves - 2 leaves (optional)
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Bananas - 4 ripe, sliced
- Coconut milk - 1 can (400ml)
- Sticky rice - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- Rinse the sticky rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Drain the soaked rice and transfer it to a steamer basket lined with pandan leaves (if using). Steam the rice over high heat for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked and sticky.
- In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is hot.
- In a serving dish, layer half of the cooked sticky rice. Top with half of the sliced bananas.
- Pour half of the coconut milk mixture over the bananas and rice.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining sticky rice, bananas, and coconut milk mixture.
- Sprinkle the toasted sesame seeds over the top.
- Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
- Serve chilled and enjoy!
