Newari Cuisine
Yomari is a traditional Newari delicacy made from rice flour dough filled with sweetened sesame or molasses mixture.
Ingredients - Serves 12
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cardamom powder - 1 teaspoon
- Ghee (clarified butter) - 2 tablespoons
- Molasses - 1 cup
- Sesame seeds - 1 cup
- Water - 1 cup
- Rice flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a mixing bowl, combine rice flour, water, and salt. Knead well to form a smooth dough.
- In a separate bowl, mix sesame seeds, molasses, ghee, and cardamom powder to make the filling.
- Divide the dough into small portions and shape them into small cups.
- Fill each cup with the sesame-molasses mixture and seal the edges to form a dumpling shape.
- Steam the dumplings in a steamer for about 20 minutes, or until cooked.
- Serve hot and enjoy the delicious Yomari!
