Misal Pav
Misal Pav is a popular dish from Maharashtra, India. It consists of a spicy curry usually made of sprouted moth beans, topped with farsan, onions, lemon and coriander (cilantro). It is usually served with bread or rolls toasted with butter and buttermilk or curd and papad.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Pav (bread rolls) - 4
- Lemon wedges - For serving
- Fresh coriander leaves - For garnishing
- Farsan - 1 cup
- Curry leaves - A sprig
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - To taste
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Misal masala - 2 tablespoons
- Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
- Tomato - 1, finely chopped
- Onion - 1, finely chopped
- Sprouted moth beans - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves. Let them splutter.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté until the raw smell goes away.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft.
- Add misal masala, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Add sprouted moth beans and mix well. Add water and let it simmer for 20 minutes.
- In the meantime, toast the pav with some butter.
- Serve the spicy curry topped with farsan, chopped onions, and coriander leaves. Serve hot with toasted pav and lemon wedges.
