Mince Pie
A traditional British holiday dessert, this mince pie is filled with a mixture of dried fruits and spices.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Egg - 1, beaten
- Mincemeat - 1 jar (around 400g)
- Cold water - 4-5 tablespoons
- Sugar - 1/4 cup
- Butter - 1 cup, cold and diced
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and butter. Rub the butter into the flour until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
- Stir in the sugar. Add the water, a tablespoon at a time, until the mixture comes together as a dough.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 15 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan) mark 6.
- Roll out half the pastry and use it to line a 9-inch pie dish. Spoon the mincemeat into the pastry-lined dish.
- Roll out the remaining pastry and cover the mincemeat with it. Press the edges together to seal and make a small slit in the top to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg.
- Bake for 45 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and the filling is bubbling. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
