Mince Pie

A traditional British holiday dessert, this mince pie is filled with a mixture of dried fruits and spices.

Mince Pie

Ingredients - Serves 8

Let's Get Started

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour and butter. Rub the butter into the flour until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  2. Stir in the sugar. Add the water, a tablespoon at a time, until the mixture comes together as a dough.
  3. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan) mark 6.
  5. Roll out half the pastry and use it to line a 9-inch pie dish. Spoon the mincemeat into the pastry-lined dish.
  6. Roll out the remaining pastry and cover the mincemeat with it. Press the edges together to seal and make a small slit in the top to allow steam to escape.
  7. Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg.
  8. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and the filling is bubbling. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
