Memelas
Memelas are traditional Mexican dish from Oaxaca, made of masa topped with black beans, salsa, cabbage, avocado and cheese.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt - To taste
- Queso fresco - 1/2 cup
- Sliced avocado - 1
- Shredded cabbage - 1 cup
- Red salsa - 1 cup
- Refried black beans - 1 cup
- Water - 1 1/2 cups
- Masa harina - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, mix the masa harina with the water and a pinch of salt until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and shape each one into a small oval.
- Heat a griddle or skillet over medium heat. Cook the memelas for about 2 minutes on each side, until they are golden and crispy.
- Spread a layer of refried beans on each memela, followed by the salsa, cabbage, avocado slices, and queso fresco.
- Serve the memelas warm, with extra salsa on the side if desired.
