Manjuu
Manjuu is a traditional Japanese sweet treat filled with various fillings and wrapped in a soft dough.
Ingredients - Serves 12
- Sweet potato paste - 1 cup
- Matcha powder - 1 tablespoon
- Red bean paste - 1 cup
- Water - 1/2 cup
- Vegetable oil - 1/4 cup
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1/4 cup
- Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- Add the vegetable oil and water to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal portions.
- Take one portion of dough and flatten it with your hands. Place a spoonful of red bean paste or sweet potato paste in the center.
- Gather the edges of the dough and pinch them together to seal the filling. Roll it into a smooth ball.
- Repeat the process with the remaining dough portions and fillings.
- Steam the manjuu in a steamer for about 15-20 minutes, until the dough is cooked through.
- Remove from the steamer and let them cool before serving.
- Optional: Dust the manjuu with matcha powder for added flavor and decoration.
