Little Italy Pasta
This pasta dish is inspired by the flavors of Little Italy, with a tomato-based sauce, spicy Italian sausage, and fresh herbs.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Parmesan cheese - 1/2 cup, grated
- Basil - 1/4 cup, chopped
- Red pepper flakes - 1/2 teaspoon
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Crushed tomatoes - 28 ounces
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 medium, chopped
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Italian sausage - 1 pound, casings removed
- Pasta - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- Cook the pasta according to package instructions.
- While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the onion and garlic and cook until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the Italian sausage and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 10 minutes.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red pepper flakes, and basil. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Drain the pasta and add it to the skillet with the sauce. Toss to coat the pasta with the sauce.
- Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
