Lasagna Di Carnevale
Lasagna di Carnevale is a traditional Italian dish typically prepared during the Carnival season. It's a rich and hearty dish, filled with a variety of meats, cheeses, and a flavorful tomato sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Fresh basil - A handful, chopped
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Mozzarella cheese - 2 cups, shredded
- Parmesan cheese - 1 cup, grated
- Eggs - 2
- Ricotta cheese - 15 oz
- Canned crushed tomatoes - 28 oz
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, chopped
- Italian sausage - 1 lb
- Ground beef - 1 lb
- Lasagna noodles - 12 sheets
Let's Get Started
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, sausage, onion, and garlic over medium heat until well browned.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, and simmer for 15 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with eggs, Parmesan, half of the mozzarella, basil, salt, and pepper.
- To assemble, spread 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange 6 noodles lengthwise over meat sauce. Spread with one half of the ricotta cheese mixture. Top with a third of mozzarella cheese slices. Repeat layers, and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil, and bake an additional 25 minutes. Let it cool for 15 minutes before serving.
